Huawei's new Nova 12 series with variable apertures and satellite connectivity – Huawei

At an event held in China, Huawei announced the new Nova 12 series of phones, which consists of four devices: Nova 12 Ultra, Nova 12 ProNova 12 and Nova 12 Lite.

The Nova 12 Ultra, as the name suggests, is a top-of-the-line phone that features a 6.76-inch diagonal LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 2776 x 1224 pixels and an adjustable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz.

The screen supports 1 billion colors in addition to the DCI P3 color space. It's protected by durable Kunlun glass and features a capsule-shaped cutout at the top for two cameras, a 60MP ultra-wide one (with a 100-degree field of view and autofocus) and an 8MP unit (with 2x optical zoom) for selfies.

The back of the device is covered with a type of leather with a 3D rendering of the “Huawei” and “Nova” brands. The camera island has an oval-shaped design and houses an LED flash, a laser focus sensor, a 50-megapixel main camera, and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The best feature of the main camera, apart from the super-resolution support and RYYB color filter, is the variable natural aperture of F/1.4~4.0. The ultra-wide camera, on the other hand, has a 112-degree field of view.

Nova 12 Ultra

Huawei has not officially announced the processor inside the device, but it is believed to contain a Kirin 9000S processor paired with up to 1TB of storage. It also runs HarmonyOS 4 and supports satellite calling and messaging powered by the Beidou two-way satellite messaging system. It also has a 4,600 mAh battery and supports 100W fast charging, and elsewhere, the device features an in-display fingerprint scanner, dual-band GPS, NFC, and stereo speakers.

Nova 12 Pro

The Huawei Nova 12 Pro is exactly the same as the Nova 12 Ultra with the difference that it is offered in another color (pink) and is slightly heavier (201 grams instead of 198 grams) while it does not have leatherette on the back. The “Pro” version is also not available in 1TB. The Huawei Nova 12 Ultra is available in 512GB and 1TB capacities at CNY 4,699 (about €600) and CNY 5,499 (about €700) respectively. The Nova 12 Pro is available in 256GB and 512GB storage capacities for CNY 3,999 (about €510) and CNY 4,399 (€560), respectively.

In addition to the devices mentioned above, the company also announced Nova 12 and Nova 12 Lite To cover more price levels. The Huawei Nova 12 has a 6.7-inch OLED display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2412 x 1084 pixels. The screen supports DCI P3 color space, one billion colors, and a hole that “hosts” a 60-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (100˚ FOV). There is also a fingerprint reader under the display.

Nova 12

As in the “Ultra” and “Pro” versions, on the back there is an oval-shaped camera island that includes an LED flash, a laser focus sensor, a 50-megapixel main camera (with RYYB filter) and an 8-megapixel ultra-resolution camera. – Wide camera (112 degree field of view). Inside is likely to be a Kirin 830 processor (the company did not mention the processor during the device's official launch) paired with 256GB or 512GB storage and a 4,600mAh battery with 100W fast charging support.

Nova 12 Lite

The Huawei Nova 12 Lite is a bit thinner and lighter, has a smaller battery (4,500 mAh) with 66W fast charging support, inside it also has a Snapdragon 778G processor and has a 50 MP primary camera but without the RYYB color filter.

The 256GB and 512GB versions of the Nova 12 cost CNY 2,999 (about €380) and CNY 3,399 (about €430) respectively while the Nova 12 Lite with the same capacities costs CNY 2,499 (about €320) and CNY 2,799 (about About 355 euros) respectively. The devices are available for pre-order in the Chinese market and shipments will begin on January 5. At the moment, we do not know when it will be launched in other markets.
