“I’m a little frozen, I can’t even think about what happened.”

Dimitris Markos was disqualified from the final in the second heat of the 800m at the Olympics and spoke directly to the ERT camera afterwards.

Dimitris Markos failed to qualify and was disqualified from the final in the second heat of the 800m at the Olympic Games.

The Greek swimmer spoke directly to the ERT camera afterwards, stating that he was frozen and unable to think about what had happened.

In detail what he said:

“I started as I should have. I don’t know why, it didn’t work for me. Maybe I should have started slower, to get the strength at the end. I went to try something new, which is basically what I had to do. I have to qualify for the final, I was really tired and this is the result.”

What would change if time went back? “I wouldn’t change anything. This is what I had to do, and this is what I would do again. Apparently I couldn’t cope, I don’t know why, I wasn’t in good shape physically. The preparations went as they were. Maybe it should be a mind game and I lost it there.

“I’m a bit cold, that’s true. I don’t have any emotions, I can’t even think about what happened. I’ll try to stay focused, I think I’ve worked hard and I’m ready for this event and tomorrow I’ll go in with a different mindset with the stick and do something good.”

About what to expect from the stick: “A lot. This team has a lot of potential. It’s about doing the right thing, being mentally prepared and going in with a winning mentality.”

For facilities: “It’s beautiful. I didn’t particularly enjoy it, but tomorrow when I’m a spectator I’ll like it too.”
