In China, the people of Zhoushan City, east of Zhejiang Province, witnessed an obvious horrific scene, the sky tinged with a crimson red color that was extremely dangerous.
On a Chinese social network, users described the strange color as an “ominous omen” regarding the country’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly in neighboring Shanghai.
However, this amazing sight has a scientific explanation. “The red sky that appeared in this area was likely caused by refracting and scattering of lights from ships in the port,” the Chinese newspaper, Global Times, quoted the local meteorological bureau in Zhoushan as saying.
“When weather conditions are good, the water in the atmosphere forms a mist that refracts and scatters light from fishing boats and creates the red sky for the public to see,” the Bureau of Meteorology said.
