The C-130 carrying 39 evacuees from Sudan has landed in Elefsina.
At the airport, Geetha President Konstantinos Floros, Deputy Minister of National Defense Nikos Hardalias as well as the Air Force Commander were waiting for the passengers, while then-Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was also present, welcoming the members. From the mission that participated in the release.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis made the following statement:
«The rescue of our fellow Greeks who were caught up in the civil war in Sudan some time ago was completed, with the safe return of the C-130 from Khartoum.
I would like to congratulate the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces Command for the excellent organization of this complex task. Always cooperating with other friendly nations, we succeeded and brought home those citizens who wanted to leave the war zone, as well as six – if I’m not mistaken – our four-legged friends who also returned with their families.
The Greek state must at all times guarantee the safety of Greek citizens, no matter where they are. And may this great adventure in Sudan end soon so that people can return safely to their homes.
Once again, our armed forces overcame us and ensured the successful completion of this complex operation».
