According to recent reports issued by BloombergThe company is planning to launch an ultra-thin iPhone that will be strategically positioned between the base iPhone 17 model and the more expensive Pro versions.
The move appears to be an attempt by Apple to revive consumer interest in its mid-range smartphones. In recent years, the Plus models have failed to attract the expected interest, as have the short-lived Mini models, which were commercial failures.
The upcoming iPhone Air promises to combine an impressively thin design with the specs of a standard iPhone. This strategy is reminiscent of the successful iPad Air series, which managed to strike a balance between performance and affordability.
In addition to the smaller design, Apple is said to be experimenting with new battery technologies. One of the most interesting developments is the use of “electrochemically induced adhesive release” technology, which could lead to more easily removable and replaceable batteries.
However, rumors regarding the pricing of the new model are mixed. While there were initially speculations that it might be Apple’s most expensive smartphone of 2025, the latest information puts it in the mid-range price range.
Jon Prosser, a well-known tech forecaster, has previously mentioned the possibility of an iPhone Air in the near future, and recent reports seem to confirm his predictions.
The introduction of the iPhone Air could signal a new era in iPhone design. According to Bloomberg, Apple is planning to expand the slimmer design to its entire line of smartphones in the future as well as the MacBook Pro and will significantly reduce the dimensions of the Mac Mini as early as this year if recent rumors are to be believed.
The iPhone 15 Pro could be the precursor to the company’s new design direction. With the introduction of the iPhone Air, Apple appears to be aiming to revive interest in its mid-range models by offering a combination of sleek design and powerful specs at a lower price.
