Irish Foreign Minister Micheal Martin said today that Ireland intends to recognize a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.
“When we recognize a state, we do not recognize the government in place,” Martin said. “We recognize the state in terms of the population that resides there permanently and in terms of the defined borders, and in this case those are the 1967 borders.” RTE Radio.

He added that it is “a specific area that includes Gaza, the West Bank, and the capital of the State of Israel and a Palestinian state in Jerusalem,” adding that its official recognition will take place on May 28.
As announced, Ireland, Norway and Spain declared their recognition of the State of Palestine. These countries are expected to be recognized on May 28.
First comment for Germany
In response to a request for comment on the decision of the three European countries to recognize the state of Palestine, a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry said that Berlin supports the two-state solution.
“The establishment of an independent Palestinian state remains a consistent goal of German foreign policy,” the spokesman said when asked by a journalist at a press conference in Berlin, adding that there was a need for a dialogue process to achieve this goal.
