The dice were thrown Purchasing power Everything indicates that the company is turning into a full-fledged company Energy and communications services provider in Greece. The company will soon enter the retail distribution market for energy and telecommunications services, of course using either the existing network (PPC stores) or the Kotsovolos store network.
The entry into the retail communications market, according to reliable information from powergame.gr, will take place sometime in the fourth quarter of the year with a more likely date, somewhere in November. By then, commercial operation of the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network developed by subsidiary Fibergrid AE will have begun.
The latter will continue to offer its wholesale network, as the parent company announced from the beginning, but one of its clients will be… PPC. The latter wants to become a provider of integrated energy and telecommunications services, but also of other services and goods that go beyond the traditional energy sector in which the PPC Group has activities.
This new strategy is dictated by the fact that because of renewable energy sources, many expect energy commodities to become commodities. This is exactly what is happening today in the field of communications. Therefore, leveraging investments made in energy (e.g. in networks), as long as they can be used to create new sources of income (e.g. telecommunications), is of fundamental importance for energy providers.
Reliable sources indicate that PPC’s intention is to further “mix” the telecom market and provide telecommunications services at competitive prices. There are also quite a few who believe that sooner or later, the company will also find itself with a mobile license. This would likely happen through acquiring an existing player, rather than building a network from scratch. In any case, Nova is already on sale, while in the future there could also be a sale to Vodafone.
It should be noted that so far FiberGrid’s fiber network has reached 140 thousand homes in 12 municipalities of Attica within 10 months. The company intends to reach 500,000 homes and businesses in the country by the end of 2024, while the goal for 2025 is to reach 1.7 million families and businesses.
The company recently awarded 12 contractors a competitive process to build an FTTH network in additional areas in Attica and Thessaloniki, while it will develop the corresponding networks in Patras, Heraklion, Volos, Kalamata, Larissa, Ioannina, Corinth, Trikala, Kozani and Veria. And major cities. Through this mission, FiberGrid is expected to reach more than 500,000 households and businesses.
PPC Group’s ultimate goal is to provide fiber-to-the-home coverage to 3 million households and businesses across the country over the next five years. In this direction, the investments that will be made in the three years 2024-2026 alone will reach 680 million euros.
It is worth noting that the network architecture created by ΕΠH FiberGrid corresponds to one optical fiber per subscriber up to the aggregation point (booth), ensuring future scalability of the network and giving service providers the possibility of dark fiber service.
