Speaking to the BBC as part of the promotional tour for the new Super Mario Bros. movie. Which is now in theaters, famous comedian Jack Black has stated that he would like to see a movie adaptation of Red Dead Redemption. In fact, he didn’t just stop there, emphasizing that he considers the game’s story to be better than the one told by The Last of Us.
In particular, Black praised the HBO television adaptation of the PlayStation game, saying:
I love personalization when it’s done right. Last of Us was great. And the madness is how true it is to the source material. It’s basically everything from the game with just a few changes. He will win all prizes. They almost used the video game as a storyboard and it really got to the point where I was like, “Wow, this looks exactly the same.”
And there are some great games that have yet to be explored on TV or film. Maybe there will be a Red Dead Redemption movie? Basically it should be, because I think it has a story as good or maybe even better than The Last of Us!
In the same interview, Jack Black went on to say that we can expect more adaptations of the game with movies and TV in the coming years, stating:
In the future, cinema and television will continue to use the stories told by video games because this market seems to be growing exponentially.
For the record, Jack Black has expressed his love for the medium many times in the past, even having his own YouTube gaming channel, Jablinski Games. At the same time, the actor has lent his voice to several gaming characters, and has participated in games such as Brütal Legend, Broken Age, and Double Fine’s Psychonauts 2.
