Karaivaz Murder: How Authorities Arrested Two Accused Brothers

A case file registered by the police against the extortion gang in 2015 was put under the microscope of the homicide department as part of an investigation to identify its mastermind. Murder of Giorgos Karaivas.

The chief member had the heaviest name of the night and is currently in jail. The case file of the Karivas case mentions the name of the particular person, but no evidence has been found linking him to the crime.

“We hope that very soon more evidence will arrive at the disposal of the Greek police and above all the judgment and experience of the prosecutor and the investigator in order to reach the circle of people involved in the murder of the late Giorgos Karaivas” Spyros Charitatos, the lawyer of G. Karaivas’ mother and sister, said.

Police put a man of the night under the microscope after he and his alleged accomplice in a 2015 extortion racket obtained SIM cards from the same shop in Ampelokibi where the men responsible for Karaivas’ murder got their phone lines.

In 2015, a police bug recorded a conversation in which a man accused of involvement in an extortion ring told The Night Owl that Giorgos Karaivaz had tipped off the police so that officers could track him down. However, police sources have denied that the police reporter did not provide such information.

The van was first registered in Alimos on the day of the murder (9-4-2021), at 12:57 and the scooter 16 minutes later at 13:13.

For five minutes from 1:13 pm to 1:18 pm, a driver-only scooter was recorded moving along the streets: Taxiarkon, Megistis, Ypsilando and Parthenonos.

Both vehicles disappeared and at 14:15 the scooter was again recorded, this time with passengers, moving along Ypsilantou Street toward the scene of the murder.

They survey the area and leave and approach again at 14.20 when the reporter arrives.

After the murder, the scooter was recorded by cameras at two locations on Megistis Street, while only one driver could be seen immediately after the security camera at 14:22:07 at a third location on the same street.

On the same camera of Megistis Street, 55 seconds later, specifically at 14:23:02, the van was recorded passing the spot and heading in the same direction towards Poseidonos Avenue.

The van was last registered at Petro Rally Avenue, Agelio, while the scooter was at Kifiso Avenue, Agelio.

Mobiles

The attackers are believed to have used two mobile phones with “ghost” numbers belonging to a Bangladeshi national. The numbers showed communications between them the day before the murder and at the scene of the crime.

Both these phone connections were activated for the first time on April 5, 2021. Both these mobile phones were purchased on 4-2-2021 at a mobile phone shop in Athens.

Meanwhile, it is noted that from the data of the telephone companies, the telephone line used by the 48-year-old, along with his details, was traced on 8-4-2021 and 9-4. -2021 shows that active operation is stopped at controversial times.
