Farewell message of Spyros Bibella
In particular, Spyros Bipilas uploaded a photo of the two of them together and the cover of Kostas Mavropoulos’ book “From the Eye of the Needle” and wrote in the caption: “Today we say goodbye from the first cemetery in Athens to a very dear friend and great haute couture designer who excelled abroad, Kostas Mavropoulos, who He and Dino Mavropoulos, who left two years ago, left their mark on the world of Greek fashion… His album, which he presented last year in October, describes the long path of his life. Bon voyage, dear friend…”.
Who was the designer?
Mavropoulos, which he directed for more than 50 years, became one of the most famous Greek fashion houses of the 20th century, with clients such as the late Queens Fredericky and Anna Maria, the most secular ladies of Athens, but also international personalities from the 1950s onwards.
Kostas Mavropoulos studied in Paris, where he studied in the atelier of the famous Greek designer Jean Desis. The Mavropoulos brothers donated dresses, sets and wedding gowns from their collection to IBP.
In 2014, their wedding dresses participated in the ceremony organized after the exhibition “Brides” in the Benaki Museum (Piraeus 138), but also in the exhibition of the same name in “Fugaro”, in Nafplio. Part of their donation was also shared in honoring the house, in 2018, in the IBP cultural space “Canary 4”.
Finally, Kostas Mavropoulos was honored in November 2022 by Ioana Papantonio, Founder and President of IBP, for his contribution to the Foundation.
His funeral was held on Wednesday, August 23.
