Approval of delivery of new RIM-116 type missiles for Super Vita RAM anti-missile defense systems was the central topic of today's Intergovernmental Council on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (KISEA). KYSEA, chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, approved the allocation of 74 million euros. Delivery of this new generation of missiles (RIM-116C Block 2 RAM) is classified as essential to meet the operational requirements of the Navy's new SUPER VITA missiles.
It should be noted that certain ships already use missiles of the Block.1A version. For this version, Block.2 missiles use a larger dual-thrust engine and an independent four canard fin actuation system to extend the range of the missile. These two additions result in a 50% increase in maximum range and a threefold increase in projectile agility. It also incorporates an improved passive RF sensor and autopilot system, while new subsystems for the infrared sensor have been adopted, replacing discontinued ones. It should be noted that the transition from Block.1 to Block.2 does not require changes to the Mk.49 Mod.2 (11-place) and Mk.49 Mod.3 (21-place) launchers. Easy and economical.
