The directorate’s investigators are trying to piece together the pieces of the puzzle of the “strange” fire that broke out at the Giannitsi food factory a few days ago in the case of student food poisoning. Crimes of Arrogance (DAEE) to fully clarify what happened before the fire that spread unnaturally fast and reduced half the factory to ashes.
As can be seen from the report of protothema.gr, the fire department officials handling the case have not yet issued the relevant decision, however, from the data they have collected so far, they estimate that it is most likely a case of arson. .
Let’s take things from the beginning.
Eye witness
On the day of the fire, three trucks and a van were parked outside the factory, while a clerk was a short distance away. And since the trucks were refrigerators, some of them were wired for cooling.
Just before the fire, a man from Armenia came outside the factory fence to unload goods. The man arrived at approximately 21.30 and waited for the guard to arrive at the site at 22.00.
According to an eyewitness, who is reportedly believed to be reliable, he saw the front of a van parked outside the factory burst into flames. Both trucks should spread very quickly Inside the business also stuck to it. Recall that the van was not connected to electricity.
After 13 to 14 minutes, when the fire started to burn, an eyewitness who was in his truck took out his cell phone and took the following video.
Both his testimony and the footage he recorded of the “show”, well-informed sources explained to protothema.gr, showed that the fire spread unnaturally to the vehicles next to the van and, even more, to the interior of the business. There was some trigger factor, indicating that it could have been arson.
So, investigators decided to take some samples from inside the business and send them for analysis to determine if there were any combustible materials that could have fueled the fire.
No short circuit occurred
Another important question that has concerned DAEE investigators is whether there was a short circuit during the charging of the trucks that led to the fire, which seems likely to be answered soon.
The fire department assigned the investigation to two experts, a chemical engineer and a mechanical engineer. As reported by protothema.gr, the first picture obtained by experts does not seem to have a short circuit or anything else that could lead to a fire, without making an appropriate conclusion yet.
It should be noted that this is the first estimate, so nothing has been taken yet.
Request to increase insurance
Finally, another aspect that worries the researchers is that a few days before the fire in the factory, its leaders requested through their agent the insurance company they work for to increase the insurance capital by 2.5 million euros.
Specifically, reports say that the coverage was for 4.5 million and the company wanted the amount to be 7 million.
Either way, the investigation is in full swing for fire officials to come to safe conclusions about what really happened that night. In this direction, it is expected that phone privacy will soon be removed for certain individuals involved in the case.
