armed confrontation in Ukraine The Russian Foreign Minister said that the West will continue until it abandons its plans to control and defeat Moscow Sergey Lavrov In an interview with an Indonesian newspaper published Wednesday.
Lavrov told Kompas that the goal of the “collective West, led by the United States,” is to consolidate its global hegemony. The Russian minister is scheduled to attend the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Regional Forum in Jakarta this week, as is US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
“Why does the armed conflict in Ukraine not end? The answer is very simple – it will continue until the West abandons its plans to preserve its sovereignty and overcomes its burning desire to deliver a strategic defeat to Russia at the hands of its puppets in Kiev,” according to the transcript of the interview published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry. At present there are no indications of a change in this position.
New attacks
Russia on Wednesday launched a wave of kamikaze drone attacks in Kiev for the second day in a row, hours before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met NATO leaders at a summit in Vilnius.
The West says it wants to help Ukraine win its conflict with Russia, and Western powers have supplied Kiev with large quantities of modern weapons and ammunition.
Lavrov also accused Kiev of ignoring the peace plan in Indonesia and promoting its own “bundle of ultimatums” instead.
For his part, Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and deputy head of Russia’s powerful National Security Council, said on Tuesday night that NATO’s increased military aid to Ukraine increases the risk of a third world war.
Commenting on the results of the first day of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization meeting in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, where member states promised Kiev more weapons and financial aid, Medvedev insisted that Western aid would not prevent achieving the goals set by Moscow when it launched what the Kremlin called a “special military operation”. The War in Ukraine, February 24, 2022.
“The completely unbalanced West cannot agree on anything else (…) In fact, this is a dead end. The Third World War is approaching,” Medvedev said via the Telegram platform.
“What does all this mean for us? Everything is clear. The special military operation will continue with the same goals.”
