The Coast Guard has located and rescued 40 migrants in the sea southeast of Lemnos early this morning.
In particular, the Single Coordination Center for Search and Rescue of the Coast Guard was informed to provide assistance to the sailing vessel with foreign passengers through the European emergency call number “112”.
A coastal patrol boat and a lifeboat rushed to the scene, while three passing vessels also got involved. Two Coast Guard patrol vehicles tried from land.
Finding the sailboat in dire straits due to mechanical failure and loss of rudder controls, the 40 men on board were first transferred to it and then to a coastal patrol boat, by which they were safely transported to the port of Mytilene. The Coast Guard said in the announcement.
