A 21-year-old influencer was found charred inside her mother’s car in a shopping mall parking lot after she went missing on her way to meet friends for a bowling match in the Argentine city of Cordoba.
The details are shocking, as Catalina’s body was found half-burned in the back seat of the car.
The 21-year-old, who has 100,000 followers on Instagram and 36,000 on TikTok, had sent a voice message to her boyfriend before she disappeared to let him know she was on her way.
However, after that, she not only did not show up to the meeting place, but also did not respond to calls and text messages, causing her friends to worry and inform her family, who in turn informed the police.
Her body was discovered the same night after her sister was able to locate her phone through her own mobile phone.
Investigators began interviewing her friends and family members to gather information about the gruesome murder, until her boyfriend, architecture student Nestor Soto, broke down and confessed to the crime.
The young man was a classmate of Catalina’s and often visited her house where she lived with her parents.
In fact, according to local police, the man “suddenly confessed to killing her and said she was the love of his life, even though they were not in a romantic relationship.”
The attacker then revealed that he asked the victim to stop by his house to pick him up on the way to the mall.
Investigators believe he assaulted the helpless 21-year-old in his home until she lost consciousness before carrying her body to his car, which he then set on fire.
Investigators are still trying to determine whether this was done in an attempt to erase evidence by the killer.
An autopsy showed the cause of death was asphyxiation by strangulation. The woman also had multiple blunt force injuries, and burns to her body believed to have occurred posthumously.
The autopsy also ruled out that the victim had been subjected to any sexual assault.
