Mali: The Maliki school of thought, the carrier of peace to confront jihad

# Financial : The Sudo Baba Association organized, on Sunday 12 June 2022, the third edition of the Memorial Day of the Maliki Rites at the Palace of Culture Amadou Hampati Bah.

The initiative aims to perpetuate the memories of the great scholar Imam Malik. The organizers believe that respecting the Maliki faith can be a major contribution to resolving the crisis raging in northern and central Mali.

Participants discussed at length the basics of the Maliki school, one of the four schools of current Islam, or the classic schools of Sunni Islamic law. It is based on the teachings of Imam Malik bin Anas, a scholar of religion and traditions who was born in Medina.

According to them, the majority of this school is located in the Maghreb, West Africa, Chad, Sudan, Upper Egypt, Kuwait and the Emirate of Dubai. This school differs fundamentally from the other three in that it is more organized and hierarchical with a chief at its head and in the sources it uses to define jurisprudence.

While the four schools of jurisprudence use the Qur’an, Sunnah, ijma’ (consensus of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad) and the like, the Malikis also use the practices of the early Muslim population of Medina as a source of Islamic jurisprudence. The tradition of Muhammad is valued taking into account the public interest.
