US Senator Bob Menendez pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to bribery charges brought against three New Jersey businessmen, as calls for his resignation grew from Democrats.
Menendez appeared at a hearing today before U.S. Magistrate Eona Wang in Manhattan.
It was decided that Menendez would be released on his own recognizance $100,000. The Senator should turn over his staff passportHowever, he may keep his official passport and travel abroad on official duties.
Last week, federal prosecutors in Manhattan indicted the 69-year-old US senator and his wife on charges that they accepted gold bullion and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash so that the senator could use his influence to help the Egyptian government and interfere in the country’s affairs.
