Mexico: A 6.3 magnitude earthquake shakes the coast of Chiapas

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Mexico today, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), while the EMSC and other seismological networks put its magnitude at 6.4.

The strong earthquake occurred near the coast on the border with Guatemala

The earthquake occurred near the coast of Chiapas on the border with Guatemala and had a focal depth of 10 kilometers.

There are currently no reports of injuries or damage.

Landslides in Guatemala

The earthquake, which was recorded Sunday morning near the coast of Chiapas, caused several landslides on the Cito Zarco road that leads from Retalhuleo to Quetzaltenango, a local television network reported.

Landslides were recorded between kilometers 208 and 215, complicating traffic in the area, as shown in videos and photos spread on social media.
