Little has changed from the original Xbox Series S, aside from the black color and more storage space inside. Microsoft is launching the black Xbox Series S 1TB on September 1st for $349, and pre-orders start today at least in the US.
The black Xbox Series S was announced on stage by Xbox President Phil Spencer, who also mentioned that the company has also been increasing shipments of the Xbox Series X to meet demand.
The Xbox Series S started at $299 at launch with only 512GB of storage, so this increase to 1TB is very welcome, especially when combined with a small price increase. The launch of the new Xbox Series S comes just days after Western Digital announced its 512GB and 1TB Xbox Storage Expansion Cards, a must-have peripheral for Xbox Series S owners. Western Digital cards start at $79.99 for 512GB of additional storage.
Microsoft’s $349 pricing means you’re paying $50 more for 512GB of storage on the black Xbox Series S model. Microsoft says the new Xbox Series S will be available on September 1st, just in time for the releases of Starfield’s Fall and Forza Motorsport.
