The demo has been available for years, with short runs that weren’t always available in certain markets. Now everything indicates that Microsoft is considering new offerings.
“We have discontinued our previous introductory offer for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass and are evaluating different marketing offers for new members in the future,” said Kari Perez, head of global communications at Xbox, in a statement to The Verge.
The €1 trial allowed users to sign up for Xbox Game Pass for one month, before a full subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate kicked off at €12.99 per month or €9.99 per month for PC-only or console-only subscriptions. It was a great way to introduce the service to a friend or family member, but now we’ll have to wait and see what the “various marketing promotions” are for new members.
Microsoft is also promoting the Friends & Family program for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The program allows you to share your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate benefits with up to four other friends or family members. The price in Ireland is set at €21.99 per month which is less than €5 per person.
Microsoft recently expanded its Friends and Family subscription program to New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Hungary, Israel and Sweden recently, but it is not yet available in many European markets or the UK and US. The cancellation of the $1/€1 subscription option could be a sign that Microsoft is preparing to bring Friends and Family to more markets, and has been testing the new subscription for about a year now.
Microsoft recently launched its PC Game Pass subscription in 40 new countries. Game Pass is now available in 86 markets in total, with new availability in countries in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
