It was a completely unexpected – at least timely – announcement from Asobo Studio and is certainly a welcome surprise for “armchair pilots” everywhere.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (FS2024) is a reality and will be released as a standalone product, the successor to FS2020, with which it will be fully compatible, including all “add-ons” acquired by third-party manufacturers.
As mentioned, the new version is “designed to take advantage of the latest technologies in simulation and games, such as cloud computing, machine learning, improved graphics, and a vastly advanced ‘engine’ developed by Asobo Studio.”
Although relevant content information is scarce, the released trailers show the potential occupational characteristics of “Pilots” in missions such as aerial firefighting, search and rescue in marine and mountain environments, transport of captive cargo by helicopter, airlift, agricultural aviation applications, Air races, VIP transfers, special operations in support of security forces, balloon and glider tours, parachuting, etc.
A 2024 release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it will be for Windows 10/11, Steam, Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
