Microsoft Unveils Copilot Plus PCs: The Future of Mobile Computing with AI – Microsoft

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently announced that all of the company’s major laptop partners, including Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, Acer and Asus, will offer Copilot Plus PCs. Microsoft also introduced two offerings of its own as part of the Surface lineup. It’s worth noting that laptops with Intel and AMD processors will also offer these AI features, in addition to Microsoft’s lineup of laptops that include processors based on the Arm architecture, with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon

The AI ​​capabilities of Copilot Plus computers are powered by the integrated NPU. One of the key features of Windows 11 is Recall, which uses artificial intelligence to create a searchable “photographic memory” of everything the user has done and seen on their computer. These laptops will run more than 40 AI models within Windows 11 to support new features. In addition, Microsoft Copilot’s built-in AI assistant will gain support for OpenAI’s GPT-4 model.

According to Youssef Mahdi, the Microsoft executive who oversees Windows, the new laptops will be 58% faster than a MacBook Air with an M3 processor and provide all-day battery life. However, it is still unclear whether this applies to all Copilot Plus PC laptops or only those with Qualcomm processors based on the Arm architecture, which seems to be the most likely scenario. Microsoft expects to sell 50 million laptops under the Copilot Plus PC brand next year.

To ensure optimal performance, Copilot Plus computers will have specific minimum requirements, including 16GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage, and an integrated Neural Processor (NPU). Models based on Arm processors, such as Qualcomm chipsets, are expected to provide autonomy that supports up to 15 hours of web browsing.

Microsoft is pitching these devices as the beginning of a new era for Windows laptops, with the potential to truly change the way we manage computers. The shift to chips based on the Arm architecture and the integration of AI features into the hardware accompanying the processor are two important bets on hardware and software that have not yet been tested in real conditions.

The first Copilot Plus computers will be available on June 18, with Qualcomm processors, while models with Intel and AMD processors will be released at a later date.
