Sports writer Minios Sakellaropoulos was invited to the ERT program, who spoke about the fact that his father did not approve of the profession he chose and also mentioned that his father could not see him on TV and in general to see his development.
Menios Sakellaropoulos said characteristically about the career of a sportswriter: “He believed that what I do should not be touched. He said to me: What you do does not concern me, what do you do with them?” He never believed me.”
The well-known sportscaster and author spoke about his career in journalism and admitted, among other things, his father's opposition to his chosen profession.
“I wasn’t really out of my teens, because I was working at the newspaper from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. But I feel happy because I did what I always loved and loved, despite the objections of my father, who never convinced me,” said Minios Sakellaropoulos.
“The unpleasant thing is that he never saw me on TV, in newspapers, he never saw my books. This is a thorn. I “lost” him very early, when I was 25 years old and he was 61-62 years old.
He was a very conservative man, and he thought my destiny was the bench. He thought I shouldn't touch what I'm doing, he said to me: 'What's yours and theirs?'” admits the successful sports writer.
“He never touched the newspaper I worked for. He said it was none of my business. It was a great lesson for me, and I now try to pass it on to my children: that everyone is free to choose what they like, and you can't control anyone. But that was era,” Minios Sakellaropoulos admits immediately afterwards.
