The Interior Ministry's decision was handed down in a scandal that leaked voters' personal data overseas for the benefit of ND MEP Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou, known as the email gate.
The leak was determined during the period when the country was under a caretaker government, between May and June 2023, when Kalliopi Spanu was interior minister.
According to the relevant announcement of the Ministry of the Interior, “an important aspect of the discovery is the verification of non-institutionalized traffic within the Ministry of the Interior during the period May – June 2023. Greek citizens living abroad and registered to vote in the 2023 parliamentary elections”.

According to the Home Ministry, the decision recommends disciplinary action based on the findings. “Recommendations to further strengthen security measures relating to the protection of personal data are also included,” it says.
The decision was presented by Interior Minister Niki Geramios and Deputy Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios to the head of the Athens Prosecutor's Office and the head of the Personal Data Protection Commission.
At the same time, the Ministry of Home Affairs underlined that the minister and the deputy minister are “undertaking procedures for the disciplinary actions in question and procedures to further strengthen security measures related to the safety of individuals”. Information”.
It is worth recalling that Michalis Stavrianoudakis, Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, and Nikos Theodoropoulos, Secretary of Apodimon of the ND, were previously dismissed for the personal data leak scandal. The Ministry's Internal Audit Unit carried out a thorough audit, which led to a detailed conclusion, which it presented today to the head of the Athens Prosecutor's Office and the head of the Personal Data Protection Commission. Investigations.
The central element of this discovery is the verification of the personal data of Greek citizens residing abroad who registered to vote in the Parliament in 2023, within the Ministry of the Interior, during the May – June 2023 period, institutionally unsolicited traffic. Elections.
