Stevan Jovetic provided an 89th-minute assist for Savic to set up a conversion for Montenegro against Lithuania in the fifth round of European Nations Cup qualifiers, but the hosts saved the game in the fourth minute of extra time.
Lithuania’s match with Montenegro in the fifth round of Group G of the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers was very exciting, with both teams scoring a total of four goals from the 70th minute onwards, ultimately getting one point each.
The Lithuanians took the lead in the 71st minute through Paulauskas, but Montenegro did not say the last word and pulled off a huge upset. Krstovic equalized in the 78th minute, while in the 89th minute the surprise came with a flavor of… Greece.
That’s because Olympiacos’ new signing, Stefan Jovetic, was involved, with the 33-year-old coming on as a substitute in the 46th minute and in the 89th minute getting a header into the big box after a corner kick. To provide the decisive pass to Stefan Savic, who sent the ball into the net from close range.
The Montenegrin players celebrated this goal angrily and justifiably, because it would have sent them (even with more games to play) to the top of the group with Serbia and Hungary, but in 90+4 they accepted a lull, with Czernis. He scored the final 2-2 with a powerful shot from the semicircle.
