In the case of the razr 50 Ultra, in fact, things are more complicated since it was released at the same time as the Galaxy Z Flip6 and since they are very close in cost (Motorola offer 1,199 euros, Samsung 1,249 euros), comparisons are inevitable. But in which areas does Motorola’s solution stand out and why would anyone prefer it over the competitors?
The design of the razr 50 Ultra is not dissimilar to that of the razr 40 Ultra. Motorola has chosen to follow the same approach with rounded corners and a sleek design. The compact dimensions (73.99 x 171.42 x 7.09 mm open and 73.99 x 88.09 x 15.32 mm closed) combined with a weight of 189 grams make it very comfortable to carry as it fits into even the smallest bags or even pockets, with little effort. It is possible to open and close it with one hand. The razr 50 Ultra features a vegan leather back and comes in four bright colors: blue, green, pink and soft peach fuzz. The latter was named Pantone’s color of the year (Motorola felt the need to mention it in the hinge mechanism) while the less fancy blue has a vertical stripe in a different shade on its back.
The device has water resistance based on IPX8 while its screen, in addition to the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection, has a coating that allows you to continue using it even if it falls on it. On the right of the device are the power and volume buttons, the first of which also includes a fingerprint scanner that works flawlessly (as for unlocking, there is also facial recognition). The hinge mechanism seems very solid: when the razr 50 Ultra is closed, there is no gap, while when it is open, any “crease” is almost imperceptible – it is at the same level as the Galaxy Z Fold6. The cameras on the outside are located inside the display while on the inside there is a selfie camera in the form of a hole in the middle.
