the black holes It has always been one of the most fascinating and mysterious phenomena in the universe. These celestial bodies are so huge and dense that they create such a strong gravitational force that nothing, not even light, can escape from them. This means that black holes are essentially invisible and their existence can only be inferred from the effects of their gravity on the surrounding matter.
However, thanks to recent advances in technology, the NASA He was able to take some really cool shots of black holes. This footage gave us a taste of just how terrifyingly large these cosmic monsters can be.
One of the most striking features of black holes is their event horizon. This is the point of no return, beyond which anything that enters will be inexorably pulled towards the singularity at the center of the black hole. The event horizon is also the point where the black hole’s gravitational pull is so strong that it distorts the structure of space-time.
NASA footage shows this distortion in action. In one particularly impressive video, the black hole appears to be bending the light of a distant star around its event horizon. This results in a bright ring of light that appears to surround the black hole, known as an accretion disk.
The accretion disk consists of gas and dust that have been pulled into orbit around the black hole. As this material falls toward the event horizon, it heats up and emits radiation in the form of X-rays and other high-energy light. This radiation can be detected by telescopes on Earth and in space, providing valuable information about the properties of black holes.
Another fascinating aspect of black holes is their sheer size. The largest known black hole, known as TON 618, has an estimated mass of more than 66 billion times that of our sun.
