There's a notice on the Cronus website warning interested parties that update 24.01-08.60.00 for the PS5 no longer allows the Cronus Zen (pictured) to connect to the console.
Although Kronos describes the device as a “console emulator,” cheaters use it to make all kinds of digital improvements to their controllers, such as reducing bounce and adjusting macros. Some keyboard and mouse players also use Cronus Zen to trick their controller into thinking they are using a controller in favor of aiming and movement capabilities.
Cronus says there's “no timeline” on when its devices will work again, but we don't know if Sony has released the latest patch to specifically ban Cronus Zen. It is also unclear whether other similar third-party extensions used for cheating, such as XIM and ReaSnow S1, were also affected.
If Sony bans gamers from using Cronus Zen, it wouldn't be a surprise. Last October, Xbox launched a blanket ban on “unauthorized” controllers and accessories. Activision Blizzard also began penalizing players who use third-party devices to cheat in Call of Duty last year, as did Ubisoft, Bungie, and Fortnite developer Epic Games.
