There is no doubt that difficulty level is one of the most important aspects of any gaming experience. When there are spikes and the gameplay seems unfair, the game often leaves a bad impression. And as it seems Sony He wants to eliminate this phenomenon once and for all, thanks to a new technology he has just patented.
Going into details, gaming giant Filed a patent For technology called features: “Adaptive difficulty calibration of skill-based activities in virtual environments”. This system will dynamically adjust the difficulty level of Sony games depending on how well the player plays. That is, if he slaughters hordes of enemies easily, the game will become more difficult, while if he fails to overcome certain challenges, the game will automatically become easier, always behind the scenes, without the player realizing it. Sony’s goal is for every player to always have exactly the challenge the developers intended.
Specifically, the patent describes the system as follows:
The data collected can be evaluated to determine whether the player’s level of performance in games matches the expected level of performance. When the user’s performance level in the game does not match the expected performance level, the parameters that change the difficulty of the game will be able to change automatically.
In fact, Sony also describes these specific parameters that may affect the system. Attributes related to movement speed, character strength, number of enemies, enemy AI difficulty, and more can slowly increase or decrease over time as a play session progresses.
Of course, it should be noted that theory is far from practice. Many times in the past we have seen companies file patents, which were never used. Therefore, the discovery of this particular entry does not necessarily mean that the system will actually be used in future PlayStation Studios experiences.
