Athens’ street food map can boast another addition to the world of burgers, once again by a chef.
The reason why Chef Vangelis Liossis received the NOB award, who chose together with Petros Fosteris Bagrati to present the extraordinary burger.
Standing out from afar with its very distinctive yellow umbrellas at the intersection of Eratosthenos and Ioannou Fokianos streets, the small shop with its wooden counter and yellow high chairs welcomes lovers of delicious and excellent quality burgers.
The menu features five burgers: smash cheeseburger, wagyu burger, brisket, buttermilk chicken and vegetarian. Two salads and appetizers – buttermilk chicken and mini bao buns. Fries are divided into classic and rock, which can be supplemented with truffle mayonnaise, parmesan, cheddar, bechamel, bacon, crispy onions or bacon mayonnaise.
If you choose to sit there, the burger comes on a tray and as soon as you open it, the aromas overwhelm you. The thin bun contains Australian Wagyu, aged cedar, pickled cucumber and truffle mayonnaise. From the first bite you will justify the title of NOB, not an ordinary burger, while from the second you will wonder how you have not tried the best burger in Athens for a long time. Well, don’t think I am exaggerating when I call it one of the top 3 burgers in the city.
Next to it were the golden, crunchy truffle mayonnaise rocks. One, two… five, ten bites of fries, and thoughts raced in my mind as to which bite to save for last. Burger or fries? In the end, the wagyu won out – it wasn’t an easy choice, believe me.
Very special is the brisket, which is baked in the oven for 12 hours. Here, the melt-in-your-mouth meat is paired with soy syrup, smoked cheese, fried onions, pickles and spicy mayonnaise.
All ingredients are handcrafted. The fries are cut fresh daily, the buns are made fluffy, and the sauces are combined. The burgers are grilled and placed on the plate with a “cheer” when you order to make you look forward to it.
The simpler the burger, the better, and the NOB is one of them.
