Officers came under fire when they went to serve an arrest warrant on a previously convicted man wanted for illegal gun possession, Charlotte-Meckleburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings told reporters.

Police Chief Jennings added that law enforcement returned fire and fatally wounded one of the suspects before more shots were fired from inside the home.
'An absolutely tragic day'
He added that a 17-year-old man and a woman were arrested, describing what happened as an “absolutely tragic day” for the city of Charlotte and law enforcement professionals.
Attorney General Merrick Garland said he was “shocked” in a press release issued by his office.
