Alexis Pappas spoke about his origins, in northern Epirus, explaining that he has never hidden his birthplace.
In an interview with OK! magazine, Alexis Pappas stressed that the history of northern Epirus has its roots in Greece and that the language, manners and customs are all Greek.
In this year’s Game Tour, you mentioned your origins from northern Epirus. You were only 4 years old, as you described, when you crossed the mountains with your parents to cross into Greece. Harsh images for a child of such a tender age.
At the time, I didn’t see it as a hard thing, but rather a process. I didn’t know what the purpose of it was. I was just following my parents, and feeling safe with them. Later, when I realized how much effort they had put in, those memories became tools and provisions for my life. I said that after my parents had gone through what they had gone through in my childhood and raised me the right way, then I could stand up and achieve my dreams.
Did you hide your origins as a child?
No, because I am Greek. The history of Northern Epirus dates back to Greece and the language, manners and customs were all Greek. So no one could make me feel like a foreigner, because I was and still am Greek. I was never a victim of bullying, I never felt like I was on the margins. My childhood was very enjoyable. Of course, my parents worked hard to raise me and my brother. He is 4.5 years older than me and lives in London. Although they were often absent from our home, we never lacked their loving care. I give my parents credit. I am their role model. Despite the difficulties, they managed to educate us very well.
