Olympiacos has achieved a positive result (win or draw) in 61% of its away matches in the Europa League over the past seven years, with nine wins, eight draws and eleven losses in 28 matches.
Olympiacos faces Baka Topola, in Serbia, on Thursday (5/10, 19:45, COSMOTESPORT 4HD, live from SPORT24), in one of their most important matches in the Europa League group, even though we are only in the second competition.
With a win, the “red and white” will gain a serious advantage for third place in their group and, therefore, will be one and a half legs ahead in European competitions after January. Piraeus will have the advantage of playing in the knockout matches in the Conference League in February and will compete in the remaining four group matches against West Ham and Freiburg for second place in the Europa League.
If Olympiacos draws with Topola, it will have to win it in the last match in Karaiskakis and of course on the condition that the Serbs in the meantime do not pull off an upset in the home match against West Ham and in both. With the German national team.
If the “red and white” are defeated at the TSC Arena, the Piraeus team will certainly need to win in Faliro to finish third.
Therefore, no one realizes how important it is for Olympiacos to get the three points against Patska Topola, and for its players to go through the break with a good mentality before the derby match with Panathinaikos in Karaiskakis on the 22nd of this month.
The Red and Whites have done well away from home
If you take a look at Olympiacos’ last 28 away results in qualifiers, group stage matches and post-winter Europa League knockout matches over the last seven years or so, you’ll see that the Reds have done a lot. They have nine wins, eight draws and eleven losses. In other words, with 61% (two out of three matches), Olympiacos gets positive results, win or draw, which is what they want to achieve tomorrow as well.
Regarding the matches in the summer qualifiers, the “red and white” were unbeaten as they achieved three wins (3-0 Chukaretsky, 3-1 Lucerne, 1-0 Arauca) and five draws (1-1 Genk, 1-0). 1-1 and 2-2 in extra time with Slovan Bratislava, 1-1 Apollon Limassol, 2-2 Slovan Bratislava, 1-1 Burnley).
In the group matches, the Piraeus team achieved three wins (3-0 Fenerbahce, 2-0 Dudelange, 1-0 Young Boys), three draws (1-1 Freiburg, 0-0 Karabakh, 1-1 Astana) and six defeats. (1-2 Nantes, 1-3 Eintracht Frankfurt, 0-1 Antwerp, 1-3 Milan, 0-1 Betis, 0-2 APOEL).
In the away knockout matches of the Round of 32 and Round of 16 of the Europa League, Olympiacos achieved three victories (1-0, 2-1 Arsenal, 3-0 Osmanlispor) and five defeats (1-2 Atalanta, 1-1). (2 PSV Eindhoven, 0-1 Wolverhampton, 0-1 Dynamo Kiev, 1-4 Besiktas).
If you just look at our away games in the group stage, which we are in at the moment, the Reds have a 50% win rate and have beaten better teams than Baka Topula, like Fenerbahce and Young Boys, or drawn, for example, against Freiburg.
It is therefore up to Martinez and the feet of the Piraeus players to return to Greece with a positive result. In fact, Olympiacos is currently in much better playing shape, even though it is a new team under construction, compared to last season or in some previous seasons.
