The Olympic Taekwondo Champion passed away Alexandros Nikolaideswho was quarreling with him cancer.
Alexandros Nikolaides, The 42-year-old, father of two and deputy press representative for SYRIZA, has struggled for two years with a very rare type of cancer.
The news of his death became known through his Facebook account with a shocking text that he wrote himself.
His shocking Facebook post:
«I’m going to start with this cliché, for you to read this post of mine by now, you may have left for a better place or no place.
For two years, I also suffered from cancer. With this rare type of cancer, walnut cancer, currently nine out of ten Greek doctors who are reading it for the first time hear it and will be quick to look for it. Fortunately, my personal doctor, the wonderful Yanis Bukovinas, who took me by the hand on the most difficult journey of my life, knew this rare man and did everything to save me or give me more life. He moved heaven and earth, literally bringing medicines to me from the other side of the earth for me to try.
Two years I didn’t say “why me”? There is no more selfish thought than this. It happens to someone, to our neighbor, to our fellow human being. And now it happens to many. If I put a lucky sign in my life, I will tell you so far, I was a lucky man. I have been fortunate to fulfill my dreams, stand on the podium many times, glorify my sport and my country, meet people from all over the world, learn respect, noble rivalry, very important values and try as I put them into practice in my life.
I was lucky enough to be loved The most beautiful woman in the worldAnd my gift from God as her name and to have a beautiful family.
So even in the ordeal that you found me, I said thank you, if this were to come to my family, you wouldn’t find her or my children. I had to climb this mountain, and I had to carry this burden. They are not.
On this difficult journey, I have been fortunate to have had the solidarity and care of so many people as my companion, that I often wondered what I had done to deserve all that they selflessly gave me. First, my doctor, Mr. Bukovinas, the rector, Mr. Dimopoulos, who helped me a lot in the initial stage of my illness but also later on, in getting every treatment as quickly as possible. Mr. Eliades a thoracic surgeon, an excellent scientist who hugged me like my father during very difficult lung surgery, Mr. Pius, a neurosurgeon who relieved terrible pains and many others, from nurses to paramedics, all they showed love and that love gave me strength.
And finally, I want to talk about the man with alpha capital, Alexis Tsipras, who recently entered my life and gave me his friendship, intellect and brotherly care, as if he knew me forever. He proved to me that whatever he and the Left stand for is a real life stance. He supported me morally and practically and also did his best to give me the best care.
I want to tell everyone something.
you passed. It has kept me alive longer from my severe cancer, it has given me the gold medal for prolonging my life at a very critical time when my daughter Eliana was only 3.5 years old and would not remember anything about me, while she is now 5.5 years old. She remembers me at least as a distant memory and will be able to tell stories to her little brother George so that they will keep me alive in their hearts forever.
My friends, in this life in which we all live transient, what matters most is the footprint we leave, not how or when we leave.
So if you are the first registered patient walnut cancer In our country, let me be an occasion to inform doctors and patients of this type of cancer which, if diagnosed in time, may save lives. Let’s be an occasion to strengthen our national health system that has been underestimated in recent years, not waiting in lines to get x-rays, chemotherapy or an operation and losing precious time, to stop the time-consuming maze of bureaucracy and legal bottlenecks in the EOF when experimental drugs are needed. Potentially saving lives to approve immediately.
If we come into this life for a purpose, you have decided what it will be. To offer hope through what I have achieved in my life, from good to bad. For this reason, my Olympic silver medals, from Athens and Beijing, which I have been hiding so well for years, is time to get out and go back to where they belong, to universal values. My last wish is that these two medals be auctioned and that the sum collected be given to structures for the children my family chooses.
If one child was saved, it would be worth every kick to the head, every broken leg. This is the mark I want to leave on society, this is the legacy I want to leave to my children.
The. Tsipras: In his short life, he has been able to do more important things than any of us
“A great man is gone. In his short life, he has managed to do more important things than any of us. The Greek flag was raised high, but even higher than the beautiful ideals of justice and solidarity in the struggle of life. Have a nice trip, Alexander.” He said.
