The men’s national polo team celebrated a hard-fought victory on Tuesday evening (30/7), beating Montenegro on penalties 17-16 in the Olympic tournament. The match ended 12-12 and based on the new system applied from this year in all major national team competitions (but also in the Champions League), both teams qualified for the penalty shootout, with the blue and white team achieving the 2×2 goal in victories, winning them by two points and Montenegro by one. The national polo team was behind in the score throughout the match against Montenegro, but came within a breath of the “three points” (12-11 2 before the end of regular time), but accepted the draw.
In the “Russian roulette”, everything was decided – as it turned out – on the first penalty kick, where Djordzic “put” the post. After that, the players of both teams were perfectly on target (although the coaches changed the goalkeepers after the third series of executions) and the precise execution of Argyropoulos gave the national team the victory and two points, which could be valuable later in the competition.
The next match for the representative group will be on Thursday (1/8) at 11:30 AM against the United States of America.
