Petros Marinakis, who had Gattuso’s trial at OFI, spoke to Gazzetta about what he remembers of the 45-year-old Italian coach heading to the bench at Olympiacos.
the Petros Marinakis As an executive officer of PAE OFI he lived in Gennaro Gattuso From very recently in 2014, when he worked on the Cretan bench. When he had 17 matches with 5 wins, 3 draws and 9 losses (season 2014-2015). The two lived together on the bench, the same anxieties and concerns, but they also lived the beautiful moments.
Without hesitation and in fact after reading many comments about the Italian coach on the occasion of the high probability that he will close in Olympiacos, he initially referred to magazine: “For me, ‘Renault’ is a very misunderstood person. A wonderful kid. It’s my personal opinion. He’s a very good coach. He’s above all a human being and then a very good technician.”
We asked Petros Marinakis to conjure up images of him at the time, and as he confirmed Gattuso had brought a full container of equipment from Italy for OFI’s training sessions and for what was needed for the team: “Because I mentioned the misunderstood word, I say it because he looks for it a lot in coaching. If this deal finally takes place with Olympiacos, it will only be good for me for Greek football and for Olympiacos.”
The 55-year-old Marinakis, who played for OFI and Olympiakos as well as abroad, still remembers that “He already brought a lot of things from Italy to the team. The things that make the team work well. Like I said again, he looks for them while he had the same assistant and after that.”
If someone had to sum up Gattuso in one word, what would that word be? “The desire. His passion in life and football. How passionate and loving he is.”
“I’ve heard incorrect comments about ‘Rino’, from the best coaches I’ve worked with”
Petros Marinakis believes that in Greece we must be patient and support the projects that are being created. He also doesn’t understand the bad comments some fans have heard or made about Gattuso.
“I have heard and continue to hear comments about ‘Rino’ that it is not right to say about this guy. It is not true. They are not correct comments about him. For a coach to perform well in the team, he needs support. And ‘Rino’ is a coach who loves to work. He was working and working long hours, both on the field and on everything the team needed.” still pointing.
In fact, he also emphasized the fact that at Olympiacos he would not have the problems he had at OFI and seemed confident he could succeed once he had his backing: “He’s one of the best coaches I’ve worked with in my career. He works a lot with the players. He’s very interested in them. They always look interesting.”
We had problems at OFI financially when ‘Rino’ was there. Olympiacos has no such problems. However, he showed a very good picture, we came close to the final (meaning the cup) and he tried in general.
As long as he supports himself, he will succeed in Olympiacos. And of course with the right design. It has all the basics. It is also a luck factor. Olympiacos has the ability to give him what he needs. whatever he wants. And of course the coach also needs luck.”
