Piraeus: Shrimp containers “hide” 320 kg of cocaine

At least 320 kg of cocaine from Latin America was seized by the Deputy Director Attica’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation, In collaboration with the Department Drug case SDOE and 3rd Customs of Piraeus.

The drug was found Hidden inside containers of frozen shrimp in the port of Piraeus. The route of the containers started from Latin America, while the destination of the drugs was Albania. From there they are estimated to be sent to Central and Northern Europe.

An Albanian national has been arrested in this case. He had an outstanding arrest warrant for his involvement in a previous drug case. In 2017, he was accused of taking part in a ring manufacturing Captane tablets in a hidden lab in Nea Beramo.

635,000 pills (the pills are also known as “drugs of jihadists”) destined for countries in the Middle East were seized. During the operation by the SDOE, Police and Coast Guard with the participation of the US DEA, 4 people were arrested.

But 3 people in the ring escaped. Among them was an Albanian citizen who was arrested in the last 48 hours and is accused of importing at least 320 kg of cocaine into the port of Piraeus.
