the Play Station Continues investments and acquires another company. No, this time it’s not a game development studio to be added to PlayStation Studios. Instead, Sony invested in… measuring, A UK based company specializing in Deep learning technology for video transmission.
Going into detail, iSIZE has developed some very impressive and innovative AI solutions to save precious bitrate on videos. Its technology can be used to significantly improve image quality in video and live streaming services.
The official announcement on the Sony Interactive Entertainment website specifically states:
This acquisition provides SIE with significant expertise in applying machine learning to video processing, which will benefit a number of R&D efforts, as well as our video and live streaming services.
Founded in 2016 and headquartered in London, iSIZE has a team of talented engineers and technical experts who have developed a range of video enhancement software solutions. For example, the company has built an AI-based perceptual data preprocessing solution that allows traditional third-party encoders to produce high-quality video at a much lower bitrate.
Naturally, this investment means that in the near future we can expect much better picture quality on Sony’s game streaming service, PlayStation Plus Premium, which has recently been enriched with PS5 games. You can read more about it by clicking here.
