Voter registration for postal voting ends tonight at 23:59 Greek time.
According to official data, by Saturday afternoon, more than 157 thousand Greek citizens had registered on the relevant electronic platform in order to vote by mail in the European elections scheduled for June 9. Of these, about 116,000 people live in Greece, while approximately 41,100 people live in 115 countries. The number of registered expatriate voters is much higher than in the 2023 general election, with nearly 23,000 registered to vote in person, with about 18,000 going to the polls in May and 15,600 in June.
Information on postal voting registrations
8 out of every 10 immigrants are residents of European countries (34,580 – 84.1%), about 4,290 are registered from North and Central America (10.4%), 870 are from Asian countries (2.1%), 400 are from Africa (1%), and 215 are from countries South America (0.5%) and 745 Oceania (1.8%).
By country, most registrations come from residents of Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Belgium, and the Netherlands. In the June elections, expatriates living in countries where no polling stations were set up in last year's parliamentary elections will also be able to vote, as the required number have not been filled. These include Angola, Botswana, Zambia, Papua New Guinea, Djibouti, Barbados Islands, Ghana, El Salvador, Ivory Coast and others.
From the same data, it also follows that interest in the new voting method, relative to the Greek data, is high in all age groups. Voters between the ages of 17 and 40 represent 31.8% of registered voters, citizens between the ages of 41 and 60 represent 38.2%, while people over the age of 61 represent 30%.
Registration requests
Please note that registrations are made through the application epistoliki.ypes.gov.grWhich can be accessed via gov.gr and the websites of the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs.
In order not to be surprised, residents living abroad should take into account the time difference between their place of residence and their country of origin. For example, for those living in Los Angeles and Vancouver, the deadline ends one minute before 14:00 local time, in New York and Toronto at 17:00, in Britain at 22:00, and in Central Europe (France, Germany, Austria, Spain, etc.) at 23:00, in Beijing at 5:00 on Tuesday and two hours later in Australia.
Voters who have difficulties using the computer can contact the Citizen Service Center (CSC) or the relevant Greek consular authority in order to register on the special electoral rolls for postal voting.
Any questions can be answered in the “More information” or “Report a problem” fields on the platform, by calling +30 210 626 6222 around the clock or by contacting your local KEP and for those residing abroad with the relevant Greek consular authority. .
Voters within Greece access the platform exclusively through Taxisnet using their personal codes. For Greeks living abroad who do not have Taxisnet codes, it is possible to complete the certificate using a combination of a Greek passport and Greek ID card (as long as both are valid) or a passport and tax registration number.
The electoral file will be sent by the Ministry of Interior via courier in May. The receipt must be made either by the voter himself or by a third party expressly authorized to receive it, with a genuine signature via gov.gr or by a public authority.
The voter is informed via email that the file has been sent with an electronic link to follow his progress (tracking).
The envelope will include a postal voting envelope, a ballot paper which will be uniform for all parties, a voting envelope which will be anonymous, an instruction form, a list of candidates and a declaration of responsibility which must be completed.
