Today, the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office announced the opening of an investigation with Rammstein singer, Till Lindemann, who is accused of sexual assault after concerts by the famous German band.
A spokesman for the Berlin public prosecutor’s office confirmed to AFP that the charges relate to “sex crimes and drug trafficking”. Rammstein is probably the most famous German-language band and one of the most popular in the field of industrial metal.
The tangle of revelations began to unravel at the end of May, following the testimony of a 24-year-old Irish woman who was at a Rammstein concert in Vilnius, Lithuania. Shelby Lynn said she was invited to a party on the sidelines of the concert where the 60-year-old sexually assaulted her, but she avoided him. She claims that drugs were injected into her drink because she couldn’t remember anything after a certain point and that she woke up the next morning with bruises on various parts of her body.
In the following days, other girls described more or less the same scenario. They were all seen near the stage and Lindemann allegedly invited them to a backstage party. Till Lindemann categorically denied the allegations and his lawyers announced that they would take legal action against the women who accused him of sexual assaults.
The band’s concerts are dominated by an element of exaggeration, with plenty of pyrotechnics and outlandish appearances by its members. Rammstein is currently touring Europe. In Switzerland and Austria, there are calls to boycott their concerts, due to allegations against the band’s singer.
