From the first moment of its launch PS5a small complaint that many owners have had to make with a wireless update DualSense observer. In particular, every time an update is released, the console must be connected with a cable to the console in order to transfer the new firmware. This was annoying to quite a few people, since most devices today support Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, as Xbox consoles do in the series consoles.
Now, a new software update with version code 23.01-07.00 that added Discord and many other features to the next-gen console, has solved the problem once and for all. Specifically, update 7.0 – as users call it for convenience – Allows DualSense controllers to be upgraded wirelessly, without the need for a USB-C cableLike in the packaging.
The official changelog on the Greek PlayStation website states:
We have updated the device software for the DualSense Wireless Controller, DualSense Edge Wireless Controller and PlayStation VR2 Sense Controllers. The update will improve stability.
You can now update your DualSense Wireless Controller’s hardware software over a wireless connection.
If you’re having trouble updating your device software wirelessly, connect your console to your PS5 with a USB cable to update it. You will be able to perform the following update wirelessly.
In fact, this is not the only change PlayStation has made based on community feedback, as they have just fixed an issue that was plaguing players in the PlayStation 4 ecosystem! Going into detail, until now, if someone installed a game from a Blu-ray Disc and then purchased it digitally, they couldn’t play it and first had to erase their pre-existing installation and download the digital version from scratch. The same was true the other way around, meaning if a user downloaded a game and then tried to play by inserting the disc, they had to install from scratch again.
This headache is now a thing of the past. With the PS5 7.0 update, the way the console manages installs has changed behind the scenes. So, No need to reinstall or re-download a game already on the console disc.
The official changelog on the Greek PlayStation website states:
The way you launch installed games has changed.
If your PS5 has the download version of a game you didn’t purchase (such as games other users have purchased on your PS5) and you have the disc version, you can now play the download version installed by inserting the disc (without the install disc).
Likewise, if you installed a game using the disc and purchased the downloaded version of the game, you can now play the installed disc version of the game without inserting the disc.
