WASHINGTON, April 1 (RHC) – The administration of US President Joe Biden on Friday rescinded a policy that would expedite the evacuation of migrants from the border and prevent them from applying for asylum entitled Title 42.
The order was revoked after years of pressure from Democrats and immigration lawyers, who say the rule is cruel and illegal for those who escape persecution and danger.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) determined that this provision was no longer necessary to protect U.S. citizens, based on favorable epidemiological terrain and disease control.
Earlier this week, executives noted that despite the removal of Title 42, most undocumented immigrants crossing the border could not remain in the United States.
“To be clear, the vast majority of people who enter the country without legal recognition will be deported,” White House communications director Kate Beddingfield said Thursday.
Although it was drawn up by the Donald Trump administration (2017-2021) within days of the outbreak, Title 42 has been used approximately 1.7 million times by the Biden administration, including repeat offenders.
Washington defended its use, saying it was an important public health order to control the spread of Covit-19 in the country, although experts say the implementation of Chapter 42 was politically motivated. (Source:PL)
