Stores will open their doors to consumers tomorrow, Sunday, July 14, the first of this year’s summer sales.
According to the Athens Chamber of Commerce, stores may optionally remain open on the first Sunday of summer sales, with a suggested opening time of 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, shopping malls are expected to open from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
What about supermarkets?
Most supermarkets will not be open on Sunday, with the exception of Lidl which has announced that selected stores will be open from 11am to 8pm and MyMarket which will be open from 11am to 3pm, but will not be delivering orders via the online store.
What consumers and shop owners should pay attention to
If the proportion of products offered at a discount exceeds 60% of the total, the percentage of the discount offered must be indicated in the shop window and in any other commercial communication.
If there are different discount rates for each product category, the price range offered must be indicated (“from …. % to …. %”).
In the event of an audit, store owners must be able to demonstrate that the old selling price shown on the sign corresponds to reality and that the way the discounted price is calculated and displayed is not inaccurate.
In any case, consumers should ask for proof, in addition to reasons of financial integrity, that in the event of purchasing a defective product, it is necessary to return the money to consumers.
