according to Galaxy ClubSome Galaxy S6 owners in the Netherlands and Belgium are seeing a message to install a new update for their phones. In the Netherlands, the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge Plus models – which were acquired by Vodafone – appear to be receiving firmware versions G920FXXU6EVG1, G925FXXU6EVG3, and G928FXXU5CVG3, respectively. For Belgium, owners of unlocked S6 and S6 Edge Plus devices have also received an update.
Last month, Samsung released an update for Galaxy S7 and S8 models that were having GPS issues. While GPS was not mentioned in the Galaxy S6 software update details, stability improvements, bug fixes, new and improved features, and performance improvements were mentioned. Additionally, the Galaxy S6 update size is 13MB, which is much smaller than the updates released for the S7 (31MB) and S8 (420MB).
It’s not clear exactly what’s included in the S6 update, but it’s likely to include improvements to the device’s GPS as well. The update could still find its way to other countries as well. As expected, as with the S7 and S8, this update does not come with a security update.
Although this update is a bit of a surprise, it seems to continue the trend that Samsung has taken lately, backing its very old devices with major issues. Apart from the above models, Samsung also released updates for the Galaxy A7, S5 Neo, S10e, and Note 10 some time ago.
