Samsung: Translation and interpretation tool in the new GalaxyAI

In 2024, South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics will publish a new smartphone, Galaxy AI, an artificial intelligence-based translation and simultaneous translation tool, a representative of the group told AFP today.

This feature will be available in the next Samsung Galaxy phone, which will be released in early 2024, according to the same source.

The same representative explained that it will allow “real-time translation of speech and texts during communication,” without specifying how many languages will be available.

How will it work?

Thanks to the “artificial intelligence that will be integrated into” this future mobile phone, the tool will work even if one of the participants is not using a Samsung model.

Samsung confirmed in a statement that speaking to someone in another language using artificial intelligence will be “as simple as turning on subtitles” for the series, adding that private conversations will be protected on smartphones.

The South Korean company Samsung is the largest smartphone producer in the world. It accounted for a fifth of all sales in this market in the period from July to September, ahead of Apple (16%), according to the specialist company Counterpoint.

Low profits for 8 years

The South Korean technology company released its first estimates for the third quarter of 2023 on Wednesday, announcing a 78% drop in profits compared to the same period last year. Results are better than expected.

The world’s largest maker of memory chips and smartphones estimated its operating profit fell to 2.4 trillion won (1.69 billion euros) in the July-September period from 10.85 trillion won a year ago, in a brief preliminary earnings statement.
