Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is the current King of Saudi Arabia since January 2015. He has also served as Minister of Defense since 2011 and served as Emir of the Riyadh Province from 1963 to 2011. He is a member of the House of Saud. He ascended to the throne on January 23, 2015 when King Abdullah, Salman’s half-brother, died.

Early years and education
He is said to be the twenty-fifth son of King Ibn Saud. His mother: Hashiya bin Ahmed Al-Sudairi.
Salman learned his first letters at the Princes of Riyadh School, which was founded by Ibn Saud to educate his children. He studied theology and modern sciences.

He was very young. In April 1955, he was appointed mayor of the city of Riyadh by King Saud with the rank of minister.[4][5] He resigned on December 25, 1960.[3] From 1963 to 2011, he was Emir of the Riyadh region.
On November 5, 2011, Prince Salman was appointed Minister of Defense, succeeding his late brother, Prince Sultan.[7] At the same time he became a member of the National Security Council.
Salman was appointed heir to the throne on June 18, 2012, after the death of his brother, Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz.[9][10] Prince Salman also became Deputy Prime Minister.

Immediately upon assuming office, the new king appointed Prince Muqrin as his successor, and the Minister of Interior, Prince Muhammad bin Nayef, appointed him third in line to the throne. In June 2017, after taking the decision to dismiss Mohammed bin Nayef from all the positions he held, he appointed his son Mohammed bin Salman as heir to the throne.
