Think of one of these action directors who, if there’s one thing he can’t be credited with, is that he doesn’t know how to make dynamic, exciting films with female leads. Then consider one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful, Hollywood stars in the hands of this director. Then put into your mental blender the most impressive sci-fi movie you’ve ever seen. Is it possible that the final mix is not worth it?
This is “Lucy”, the Luc Besson film that became a trademark in 1994 with “Leone” and since then has not stopped making action films that are produced at a feverish pace, films that have been the most recognized for some women in Hollywood. – Ask Natalie Portman or Milla Jovovich. Here the French director meets the stunning Scarlett Johansson, who plays the title role, and the end result is truly stunning.
Lucy is a writer who makes her living through drug peddling. At some point she will be kidnapped by some villains from Taiwan to steal the advanced medicine she is carrying, and the latter will fall under its influence. And here everything changes. Not only for herself but also for all of humanity. Because this substance entering her blood is unlike anything else we know.
There is a theory that we humans only use a very small part of our brain. Therefore, our true potential remains unexplored. If these things were released, we would be far superior beings, we would be able to make things move with our thoughts, we would possess tremendous powers, and we would no longer be human but superhuman. It’s not like we don’t want to be something like that from now on. It’s just that we haven’t evolved as a species yet.
This theory was adopted by Lucy. Because this drug that the main character takes contributes to exactly that: unleashing the potential that humanity has anyway. Thus Lucy became a source of fear and terror not only to her enemies but also to anyone unlucky enough to cross her path. She has become a killing machine, a truly superior being, a superhero.
The film’s frenetic, manic pace, which refuses to let its footing down, has its pros and cons. The downside is that it does not allow her to become more thoughtful, to “bend” with a desire to deepen the tragedy that the protagonist carries as a being so far ahead of her time. The positive, of course, is that it never makes you bored, you watch it with bated breath, it becomes a mixture of “Matrix” and “Akira” and never lets up.
It’s simply a sci-fi movie, and since it’s on Netflix, it’s a real sin not to watch it if you love everything it stands for. Speaking of which, with such crimson could there be something else right?
