Seven dead and 129 wounded in a Russian missile attack

Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said earlier that seven people, including a six-year-old child, were killed and 129 wounded when a Russian missile hit a square in the center of the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv.

The townspeople were heading to the church to attend a mass on the occasion of a religious holiday when the attack occurred. Of the 129 injured in the search and rescue operation, 15 were children and 15 were policemen, Interior Minister Ihor Klimenko wrote in his Telegram message.

Ukrainian media reported this At the time of the attack inside the Municipal Theater, there was an event involving drone manufacturers. Both Russia and Ukraine used drones extensively in the field during Russia’s 18-month invasion.

In statements to reporters, Klimenko only confirmed that an unspecified event was taking place inside the building and that the Security Service of Ukraine was investigating.

Chernihiv is located about 145 kilometers north of the capital, Kiev.

The roof of the neoclassical theater was destroyed in the attack, which smashed doors and windows in nearby apartment buildings and shops.

The streets were littered with bloodstains, debris and first aid kits used to treat the wounded.

Russia has attacked Ukrainian cities from the front lines with missiles and drones as part of the large-scale invasion it launched in February last year.

The Kiev Air Force announced early this morning that the Ukrainian military had shot down 15 of the 17 Iranian-made Shahed drones used by Moscow during an overnight attack.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today that it had destroyed a Ukrainian drone in the Belgorod region and another near Moscow. The same source said that a third missile hit the runway of a military airport in the Novgorod region, destroying a military plane.
