Moving on to the details, new information has been highlighted about the next-gen Sims game, currently codenamed “Project Rene.” According to Head of Development Lindsay Pearson, The Sims 5 will be completely free to play, with no need to purchase base content or any monthly subscription.
At the same time, Pearson responded negatively to speculation that the game would adopt strategies found in smartphone titles, such as progress-limiting power bars and microtransactions. On the contrary, he asserted The Sims 5 will rely on DLC packs to be profitablefollowing a strategy similar to the one the world already knows thanks to The Sims 4.
“In addition to regular updates to the base game, we will be selling content and packs. Sure, the game won’t launch with everything you have in The Sims 4, but we will be adding new experiences and content to Project Rene over time.”
Pearson gave the seasons as an example, saying that Rene’s project could only include a “basic weather” free-for-all, with a package for purchase focused on winter sports, for example.
