Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was seriously injured in an armed attack yesterday, Wednesday, “underwent another operation” and remains in a serious but conscious condition, Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinac said today, who visited him.
“He underwent surgery that lasted approximately two hours,” Kalinac explained during a press conference at the hospital in Banska Bystrica (central Slovakia).
“His condition is still very serious,” he added. “It will undoubtedly take a few days to see how it develops.”
Shortly before that, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that his Slovak counterpart was “between life and death.”
“We pray for the Prime Minister and support Slovakia morally,” Viktor Orban noted, adding, “We wish him a speedy recovery and return to work.” Robert Fitzow, between life and death.
His Hungarian counterpart also indicated that even if he recovers, Robert Ficzó will remain unemployed for several months at a critical time before the European elections scheduled for early next month.
It is noteworthy that the assassination attempt on the Slovak Prime Minister was the first against a European political leader in more than 20 years and was condemned by the international community.
Political analysts and members of parliament say this has revealed an increasingly intense and polarized political climate in Slovakia and across Europe.
